Meeting Against The Current

Bands for most are an escape, a support network and play as a distraction. They bring light into the dark times especially when you're 'sick' or you're going through something difficult.

We want to talk to you about a band called Against The Current, they're a small but wonderful band with lyrics so meaningful and beautiful.

On Wednesday 21st September, we met Against The Current - it was officially the first day we met in person after speaking to one another for months, meeting one another nobody would believe it was the first time we had met each other, we got on like we had known each other for years.

The first thing we did after meeting at the train station was going in search for our hotel, which turned out to be less than a five minutes from the station but somehow we got lost, google maps on our phone took us the wrong way, What a great start to us meeting, eh?

Once we found where our hotel was and had settled in, we set out to the venue. We weren't queuing long until we saw glimpses of Dan and Will walk in and out and back to the tour bus. They were running a little late so we got into soundcheck at about 6.30pm where they sang Outsiders and Fireproof, after that it was time to meet them.

Queuing up to meet them there was a mixture of nervousness and excitement , we moved towards the back of the queue to give ourselves time to control our nerves, when we finally got to the front they welcomed us both with open arms, Dan especially - they all gave great hugs. Before the photo was taken we handed them some gifts which they all seemed so grateful for and thanking us multiple times for them.

One of the biggest reasons of why we were nervous was because of our disabilities - especially the obvious ones and how they were going to treat us or react but they didn't seem phased at all and treated us just like anyone else.

Finally, it was time for the bands to come on stage. The first of the two opening acts , Beach Weather were great to see live, I think one of the biggest highlights was when Reeve was jamming so hard he tripped and almost hit the ground. They were incredible live and are talented artists, one we'd love to see again!

Then it was time for the second opening act, As It Is. Their energy and stage presence was amazing and they were even better live than what you listen to at home on their albums and singles! One of the things about As It Is we love is the lyrics, they say the things you feel or want to say - songs like 'Okay' or 'Can't Save Myself'

Watching Against The Current perform was incredible! If there was only one band we could suggest you go and see it would be Against The Current. They're the most sweetest, genuine and down to earth humans to exist. Their music and lyrics are inspiring and amazing. They totally rocked their new album and played each and every song AMAZINGLY. With Will's talents on the drums and Dan's shredding it on the guitar and Chrissy's breathtaking vocals, they absolutely wowed everyone in the room. They are the smallest but biggest band and they're gonna go far. And we're so proud of them.

During the show we got crushed when Chrissy came to touch peoples hands resulting in Katie's back being whacked and Charlotte's finger got broke - her finger got caught between Chrissy's and the audiences hands - ironic huh, breaking a bone on the In Our Bones tour?

After the show we met Patty and Alistair from As It Is and Nick and Reeve from Beach Weather - all of which were such lovely people and were great to speak with. We spent some time speaking to all of them and took some pictures - surprisingly speaking better to them than we do with other people in our day-to-day lives.

A short time later Will exited the venue and took some pictures with us and other fans, mostly people took pictures and walked off but we spent almost ten minutes talking with Will, he was so great to talk too - we told him how today was our first day of officially meeting and it was partly down to our love for against the current and he looked so happy about it. The conversation we had with Will was as if we were friends and not fans, he's one of the nicest people you could ever meet.

Below are some photos we'd like to share with you from Wednesday.

Thanks for reading our blog, and a thank you to Against The Current for such a great night.

Love, Charlotte and Katie xx
